Fall Fair This Thursday!

Our annual Birchmount Fall Fair takes place on Thursday, September 24 from 5:00-7:00 PM. This fantastic community event is organized and hosted by our Home and School Committee in partnership with Birchmount staff.

To help avoid lineups at the event, families are encouraged to purchase bracelets and tickets in advance through SchoolCash Online. Advance purchases will be available until Tuesday, September 22.

We are also looking for a few extra volunteers to help with:

• Set-up: 3:15-4:15 PM
• Clean-up: 7:00-8:00 PM

Lockdown Drill on Tuesday

Birchmount School is proud to be part of the provincial Pilot Calendar Project. As part of our ongoing commitment to school safety, we will be conducting our annual lockdown drill on Tuesday morning in partnership with the RCMP.

Families may notice police presence at the school during the drill. Please do not be alarmed. This is simply an opportunity for students and staff to practise how we would respond in the unlikely event of an emergency.

Parent School Support Committee (PSSC) Meeting

Our first Parent School Support Committee (PSSC) meeting of the school year will take place on Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM at Birchmount School.

The PSSC serves as an advisory committee to school administration and provides valuable feedback on school operations and our School Improvement Plan. Meetings are open to all parents and caregivers who would like to learn more about our school and the important work happening at Birchmount.

Playground Reminder

Now that students have settled into routines and become familiar with staff, we would like to remind families that our playground is closed to the public from 8:10 AM until 2:40 PM each school day.

This practice helps us maintain a safe environment for students. During instructional hours, it can be difficult for staff to identify who is a member of our school community and who may be a visitor. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our students safe.

Pilot Calendar Day – Friday, September 25

Please remember that Friday, September 25 is the first Pilot Calendar Day of the school year. There will be no classes for students on this day.

Staff will be working and learning alongside colleagues from across ASD-E, focusing on improving instruction in areas such as literacy, numeracy, and other priorities identified in our School Improvement Plan.

Cross-Country Update

Please note that there will be no cross-country races at Centennial Park this week.

Instead, our runners will have practices at Birchmount School on:

• Tuesday, September 22
• Thursday, September 24

Both practices will run until 3:45 PM. Students should be picked up promptly at that time.

Home and School Pizza Day Update

Due to circumstances well outside the control of our Home and School Committee, the September Pizza Day has been cancelled.

We know many families were looking forward to the return of Pizza Days and appreciate your understanding. Our Home and School volunteers are working hard behind the scenes, and we hope to provide an update regarding October Pizza Days very soon.
