We are happy to tell you that Birchmount School will be celebrating Pride Week from June 10th to June 14th. During this week, we will celebrate all the different people in our school, including those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. We want everyone to feel included, respected, and understood.
Pride Week is important because it matches up with provincial and district policies, as well as provincial curriculum:
- Policy 713: This policy helps us make sure everyone feels safe and respected, no matter who they are or who they love.
- Policy 322: This policy helps us include and respect everyone, making sure all students, teachers, and families feel valued.
- Policy 703: This policy helps us create a happy and positive place for everyone to work and learn.
During Pride Week, we will have fun and learn together. We will talk about why it is important to accept and celebrate everyone. There will be activities that help us understand and respect all the different people in our community.
Monday | Colour Day! Wear your red and/or orange. Middle School students will hear from a guest speaker, Mitchell Goodine, on the importance of respecting and celebrating diversity in others, including ourselves. |
Tuesday | Colour Day! Wear your yellowand/or green. |
Wednesday | Colour Day! Wear your blue and or/purple. Pride flags, pins, stickers and more will be available for purchase for students in grades 6-8. |

At Birchmount School, we believe it is very important to celebrate all kinds of diversity. Pride Week helps us learn about acceptance and understanding.
We hope you will talk with your children at home about why it is important to be kind and include everyone. Together, we can continue to make Birchmount School a place where everyone feels special and respected.
Thank you for your support in making our school a great place for everyone.
