We are excited to introduce our new Indigenous Cultural Support Worker, Cole Walsh, who will be joining us at Birchmount on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Cole will be offering a variety of services to support our students, and if you would like your child to receive individual cultural support, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Here’s a bit about Cole in his own words:
**My name is Cole Walsh, and I will be the Cultural Support Worker for Birchmount. I am scheduled to be in the building on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am both Ojibwa and Cree, originally from Ontario. I did not grow up learning about my culture and had little access to resources, so while I have knowledge of Indigenous culture, I am continually learning.
I enjoy doing anything outdoors or anything hands on, though I am not known to be a “crafty” person! I attended post-secondary at Loyalist College and Crandall University. This is my third year with Anglophone East and my second year as a Cultural Support Worker.
My role includes several services through three tiers: one-on-one support, group work/activities, and classroom visits. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. I look forward to working at Birchmount!**
We are thrilled to have Cole with us this year and know he will be a valuable resource for all our students. If you have any questions or would like more information, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher.
